Plantains are the starchier, less sweet cousin of the banana. Although sweet bananas, also known as “dessert bananas,” are far more popular in the United States and Europe, plantains are an essential food for people in tropical countries.

Plantains, unlike dessert bananas, are usually typically prepared before consumption. In fact, don’t be fooled by their banana-like appearance; they taste dreadful raw.

According to WebMD, plantain can do the following things to the body when eaten regularly.

1. It helps to lowers blood pressure.

Potassium is necessary for the heart, nerves, and muscles to operate properly. It aids in the digestion of carbohydrates and the production of protein.

Potassium-rich foods can help control blood pressure and reduce the risk of stroke.

Getting enough potassium in your diet might help you regulate sodium, which can raise your blood pressure. When eating a high-sodium diet, some people may develop high blood pressure.
2. It aids digestion.

Fiber is beneficial because it aids in bowel regularity in human body. Fiber softens your stool and makes it bigger and heavier. Constipation is therefore prevented by bulky stools, which are considerably easier to pass.

A fiber diet may also lower the risk of haemorrhoids and diverticular disease, which are tiny pouches in the large intestine. Fiber also promotes satiety, slows digestion, and may aid with cholesterol management.

3. It helps in weight management.

Carbohydrates aren’t generally detrimental for weight loss, contrary to popular belief. Plantains provide complex carbohydrates in the form of fibre and starch.

Complex carbohydrates and fiber are less processed and digested more slowly than simple carbs found in processed foods. They make you feel fuller and more content for longer after a meal, which means you’ll eat less bad snacks.

4. It prevents ulcers.

Unripe plantains also contain manganese, potassium, and leucocyanidin, which is one of the phytochemical properties found in food. Its presence in the plantain makes it a good source of food for people who have ulcers or want to avoid them. It has antiulcer qualities because it promotes and increases mucus secretion in the stomach, among other things. Plantain in its dry form promotes ulcer healing and lowers the chance of developing stomach ulcers. When consumed on a regular basis, plantain can help treat and prevent ulcers.
